We have made the difficult decision to cancel summer 2020 resident camp and High Adventure Trips. Please know that we did not come to this decision lightly.
We have waited as long as possible to make this decision and sought the counsel of many. Even considering that our camps adhere to the most stringent safety protocols and that stay-at-home orders could lift in early summer, social distancing and crowd limits will likely remain in effect, and too much is still unknown with respect to the spread of the virus. Additionally, opening resident camp in June would mean convening girls, young adults, and our staff early in the post-outbreak recovery period. We are simply not willing to risk gathering large numbers of Girl Scouts together before we know it is truly safe to do so.
We know that resident camp is something many Girl Scouts look forward to more than anything else the entire year. It’s a place where girls gain independence and make lifelong friends.
Planning is full steam ahead for an entire year of exciting programs and activities, including Resident Camp 2021 which we expect to be bigger and better than ever.
In the meantime, we will work hard to give your girls safe and fun alternatives to summer camp sessions. We plan to open camps for troop camping, and we are committed to providing as many camp-like opportunities as we possibly can in the late summer and into the fall, as the situation allows. The following are already being planned, with more to come:
Until Girl Scouts can meet up in person again, visit the Girl Scouts at Home to access virtual Girl Scout programming and activities to keep your girl, your troop, and your community connected.
